Decided to go to Cabo Blanco nature reserve today. Feeling chilled so had breakfast(nice) , then packed a rucksack and set off.
Naively we expected the road to Cabo Blanco to be tarmaced and easy to negotiate. WRONG. In fact, why would we think that? It was terrible , an 8km drive took 45 minutes. I could have run it in that time (what do you think Gill Pilgrim?)
Eventually got there, having followed someone who was very cautious, then overtaken by a local who wasn’t.
We took the Swedish trail which was the longest and it was very pleasant even though there was no wildlife about.
We arrived at the beach in enough time to have a picnic lunch and a swim. The sea was super rough and Steve and I only went in up to our hips as the rip current was very strong. As we ate our lunch we observed some much older French Canadians dive in and swim way out. What sort of wimps are we?! It was hard not to secretly fantasise they’d get it to some sort of trouble and Steve and I would have to go in and rescue them but, alas , that didn’t happen.
It was a hot and sweaty hike back and an 8k journey of potholes and avoiding huge rocks didnot appeal but we got back ok, buoyed up by the sight of 2 cyclists struggling up a hill, obviously sans air conditioning. Worthy but why?
After a rest (yes I know this is sounding horribly smug even to me) we went to the supermarket, bought some beer and peanuts and went to the beach to watch the sunset. (Can hardly bear to write this, you must hate me).
All I can say is I wish you were all here to enjoy this revoltingly smug moment together. I do miss family and friends a lot xxx
