Day 10. Montenegro

Sorry no pics as Internet too weak

Caught the bus into Kotor this morning and had a wander around the old town. It’s very reminiscent of Italy and extremely picturesque. Had an early lunch then walked up to the top of the old fort. Very high and there were a few red faced people by the time we got to the top. (Not us I hasten to add!)

Caught the bus to Perast which is another old town that has been very well preserved. Again, very elegant with Italian architecture.

Offensive observation number 4 and I make no apologies. Old men from Montenegro are pig ignorant. An old Montenegrian couple got on the bus. A young woman stood up to offer her seat – the man sat down and left his wife standing! On the way back, there was a spare seat next to an old man. He had some shopping next to him but refused to move it even when an ancient old lady got on the bus. In fact he put more shopping on there to make doubly sure she got the message! Unbelievable.

Back at the apartment now and have just paid our bill. We had the biggest pan of mussels you’ve ever seen last night plus grilled fish, veg and bread. Plus beer and wine. Nada washed our clothes for us and provided us with a welcome beer when we arrived. In all our two nights accommodation and everything else came to 155 euros – £110. And our apartment is gorgeous. We’re finding less is more on our travels. Why stay in impersonal, high end hotels where everything is extra? There’s a real feeling of hospitality in this part of the world along with fairness. Nada’s happy, we don’t feel ripped off = we’ll be back and recommend this place to others.

Moving on to Macedonia tomorrow. I know very little about it apart from it has very high mountains. I love this travelling lark!
