Day 47 -Germany/bernkastel kue

Day 47 -Germany/bernkastel kueHot day today, around 30 degrees. Very easy, but somehow seemed long, drive to the Mosel Valley.

Found the apartment in Bernkastel Kue without too much trouble but the garage we had paid to park in was very difficult to get into. Ended up parking in the public car park which should be fine but slightly annoying we hadn’t been told about the garage before hand.

The apartment is very cute but we had problems getting on the internet so decided to go for a drink and pick up wifi at the same time.

No wifi! Must have asked In at least 5 places. One waitress was extremely rude to us when we asked – totally uncalled for. Eventually we found a pleasant person who told us none of the restaurants and bars offered wifi.

Decided to get something to drink anyway and sat down at a cafe. The waitress came out, cleared a table, went back in, cleared another table and totally ignored us. What the hell?!

Our visit to the information centre wasn’t much better. The old trout behind the desk did not want to be bothered by customers and any questions were answered with such a look of disdain it was hard to remain civil.

Looking at reviews left on trip advisor this is not a rare occurrence. Have we stumbled upon the rudest place in Europe?

Unfortunately all the negativity did have an effect on us and we got quite grumpy with each other.

Luckily we found a curry house which lifted our spirits. Steve is still suffering from pork phobia since Bratislava and most of the restaurants here serve little else.

Afterwards, being only 9.15 we looked for somewhere to have a coffee or tea. Nope – everywhere was closing up. Hmmm, think we might have chosen the wrong place for our last few days of the tour.

pretty place, shame about the people

beer and curry warm the soul

  1. Oh,so sorry to hear your Germany phase not doing so well.Try Belgium.Any chance of going through Bruges, that’s beautiful loads of lovely restaurants and wonderful sea food,it’s called the Venice of the North I believe? Belgians fond of Brits, helped them during the war when they were starving.,They were of course under German invasion and control for a number of years. Also if not that way,the Picardy side of France is nice..? Although Dom not enthusiastic . Of course it’s August and full holiday season now.
