Not a great nights sleep after a ridiculously big meal. I was full after the pasta and then had to wade my way through a meat and dessert course. How do Sicillians stay so slim yet eat so much?
Today we explored Cefalu. It’s a very old town and was in Arab hands for a while. There is a large limestone outcrop (La Rocca) with castle ruins at the top. The views over the town and the sea are breathtaking.
We stopped for a drink in the Duomo piazza and I ordered what I thought was fresh orange juice. I was quite surprised therefore to receive what looked like a giant scotch egg. I had apparently confused arancia with arancina, a local snack which is a bit like a rolled up, deep fried cottage pie. Steve, being the obliging person he is, helped me eat it.
After walking for ages, we headed back to our hotel and lazed by the pool for a while. The water was absolutely freezing! As is my routine now, I managed a mini siesta in the sun. How on earth am I going to cope when I get back home?!
After a shower and fixing up tomorrow’s destination and accommodation, it was time to eat. Found a very nice restaurant on the sea front which was a bit different to all the others. I had a burger and Steve had beef rolled in pistachios and filled with cream cheese. No pasta and no pizza – yippee!
