Middle-aged flash packers

The Jurhmanns are Kylie’s side of the family consisting of Michael, Jane, Hannah, Maddy, Max, Marina, Helen, Caitlin, Rowan and the indomitable Ooma plus a few others we didn’t get to meet.
They live in gorgeous Adelaide and Kylie arranged for us to spend 5 days with them.
We also had close family friend Wayne along for the ride who would appear and disappear enigmatically, earning the catchphrase “where’s Wayne?”.
The Juhrmanns have one genetic trait in common – they are incapable of living life at a “normal” pace. What most people do in a week, they do in a day.
I couldn’t possibly list exactly what we did while we were there, it would take far too long, but highlights were:
Jumping off the jetty – terrifying but I did it!
Snorkelling- so many fish!
Wineries – a lovely Sunday afternoon Aussie pastime, tasting wine and getting slightly squiffy
Watching the sunset on Michaels balcony
Womad – all the Juhrmanns getting into the groove
Ooma – 91 but full of life and very much the heart of the family
Playing “heads up!” – hilarious evening and my voice was hoarse the next day. Apologies everyone if I shouted too much.
Climbing mount Lofty
The Adelaide area coastline is fabulous – uncrowded sandy beaches, some red sandstone cliffs, piers (jetties). Adelaide itself has a lovely university area, beautiful parks and tree-lined, leafy suburbs.
We were sad to leave The Jurhmanns and Adelaide but I’m not sure I could have kept up the pace any longer.
A flat battery at Brisbane airport brought us back down to earth, resulting in getting home around 12.30am. Poor Kylie had to be in work by 6am. But then again, she is a Jurhmann – no problem.
