We decided to do the above walk as the views are supposedly some of the best in the Blue Mountains.
Woke up to fog. Not just a bit, a real pea-souper. Walking down the road towards the falls, we could have been anywhere. Couldn’t see a thing.
By the time we got to the falls, we could at least see in front of us but that was about it.
I have to say this did make the walk rather dull. Might as well have been in the Chilterns apart from the weird noises in the forest. I’m not sure whether they were birds or insects, but the noise was like being on a submarine – a strange sonar type sound.
The ruined castle turned out to be nothing of the sort. No castle, no ruins. ???? Anyway, the fog had at last lifted and we got a bit of a view of the surrounding mountains.
On the way back the views got better. The wow factor at last arrived when we walked up the Katoomba falls steps to the under falls lookout point. A tall waterfall looking out onto the blue mountains bowl, encompassing the three sisters. People had snuck out over the barrier onto the falls for a better view. Naughty but we did the same. No doubt someone will fall off the ledge at some point and the barrier will be reinforced but for now it’s quite easy to get close to the spectacular view.
The walk back to the motel seemed interminable but we stopped off at the grog shop so we had a nice cold beer to look forward to.
On arrival at our abode, Steve immediately went to sleep, waking in time for a quick shower and (thankfully) a very short walk to the curry house we booked.
Curry was plentiful but the strangest vindaloo ever. Not at all hot and full of tamarind, making it very sour. Curry Oz style? Not so sure.
