Vogel

We were keen to test our legs for Triglav and decided that a walk up to Vogel (1922m) would be just the ticket.

We caught the cable car to 1537m and then wound our way up towards the summit.

The terrain is tricky as it’s very stony and not the easiest to walk on. Unless you’re a goat. Goats find it very easy to walk on and like to block your path so you have to stumble round them. We met a large herd of goats and male goats are no different to our own male species – cantankerous and stubborn. The stand off between Billy Gruff and Steve was a sight to behold but Eventually Billy Gruff, who had an impressive pair of horns, moved along.

The ascent to Vogel was fine although there is one very steep section, but there are cables to cling on to if needed.

At the top we bumped into a French walking group led by a Slovenian guide. He was able to give us some insight into walking up Triglav and as he didn’t look at us in horror or (worse) snigger, I felt reassured that it was within our capabilities.

As usual, descending was more arduous and drawn out than expected but we eventually arrived back at the gondola by 5.15pm – on target time.

Our apartment has the very opulent and welcome addition of a jacuzzi bath so it was straight into that on return, then on to cooking dinner for Jan and Nik.

The weather looks awful from Thursday onwards but is looking good for tomorrow and more importantly, Wednesday. As long as our legs hold up, it’s looking good for Mission Triglav!
