Colico/Pinerolo

On our final full day in Colico, we walked to Forte di Fuentes along the banks of the river Adda.

It was a lovely day for a meander and the fort itself, although derelict, was a quiet and serene place to have a wander around.

On our return to our apartment we spent some time lazing by the pool. It was actually hot enough for me to have an extremely bracing swim.

The next morning, we packed up and headed off to Pinerolo, a small town outside of Turin in the piedmont area of Italy.

Although not a touristy sort of place, it has an attractive little old town and a vibrant cafe culture. It’s a great base for visiting Turin and also the Forte Fenestrelle which is actually a number of forts connected by a 3km long walked stairway. We will be visiting both.

We met up with Jan and Nik for a drink and something to eat in Pinerolo.

If you want a beer, a coffee, cake or an ice-cream you are spoilt for choice , but a meal that doesn’t involve pizza – forget it.

In the end we settled for a Chinese. Big mistake. I won’t bore you with the details but Steve declared it the worst Chinese meal he had ever eaten and I must admit it was very poor. More concerning were the noises Nik’s stomach was making on our return to the hotel – hope he’s ok for Turin tomorrow!
