Another lovely day, another hike. This time our walk took us up to the Poca Inferno waterfall then a climb to 1306 meters, over into a plateau full of boulders and alpine flowers and then back down into Manteigas . We only saw two other people walking this route which was approximately 11 kilometres in total. Beautiful walk.
It’s been wonderful hiking in trainers rather than boots and only having to carry a small rucksack. Some rather large clouds appeared as we were walking and I was a bit concerned as neither of us had brought any wet weather gear with us but they passed thankfully.
One of the many joys of walking here is that on our return, we can grab our swim stuff, have a swim in the hotel pool then fall into a deep slumber on a sunbed . It’s almost as good as going on a winter walk, getting home, having a bath then going straight to the pub for a beer.
The only potential problem is going to sleep very soundly and waking up looking like a boiled lobster. Obviously we try to avoid this but I suspect at some point it will happen.
Pre dinner drinks were at the same place as last night. Glamorous it is not but there is only the choice of two bars with outside space and the other one is basically on a roundabout.
We chatted to some bikers from Doncaster who were on their way to Faro to attend a rally. They were very nice guys, packing a lot into two weeks.
Dinner was at the local pizza restaurant and was very disappointing unfortunately. Horrible soggy dough – yuk. Still, you can’t win them all.
On the road tomorrow, off to the Minho area, home of vinho verde, my new favourite tipple.
