Middle-aged flash packers

We checked out of Gerês this morning and drove to Ponte da Lima to do some walking along the river. We did a circular route.

We only intended to walk 10 kilometres but it ended up being double that. How do these things happen? Mystifying.

Anyway it was a beautiful day although the trail itself was a bit dull as the river was hidden from view by undergrowth and marshland.

We are not used to walking on the flat and perversely I find it makes me ache much more than walking up hill. I did jog some of it on the way back just to make the time go faster.

We were pooped by the time we got back to the car but still had an hours drive to just outside Porto.

The hotel was fine and we hobbled out to find somewhere to eat. I can’t recall the name of the taverna we ate in but the food was great and the restaurant full of locals. We noticed that some people plonked themselves down and their food arrived immediately. Very regular customers I guess.

Last day tomorrow- if the weather is good it’ll be a pool day, but if not it’ll be a venture into Porto.
