Muttrah

We returned to Muttrah to have a look round the souk and do a circular walk through a wadi – a dried up river bed.

It was a very nice walk, a bit eerie (for those of you who haven’t read my other blogs, I get a bit nervous when we are off the beaten path) but we saw a couple of other  tourists which made me a bit happier.

The souk had been billed as a “labyrinth you can get lost in”. It was a reasonable size but that was a bit of an exaggeration. Go to the Grand Bazzar in Istanbul if you really want to get lost.

Anyway, it was nice enough and a good insight into what locals purchase. You can buy any dress you like as long as it’s black and covers you from head to toe. One thing that I’m finding difficult is seeing women in the full burqa. I think it might be dying out as some Omanis stare at them but watching a woman trying to eat while wearing one makes me angry that anyone thinks it’s ok.
