I’ve decided that Slovenians have some sort of genetic aberration that has made them half mountain goat. They seem attracted to steep slopes and even those that look as though they’ve overindulged on the goulash fly up the hills with ease. Parents carry their babies and children with them. It’s quite amazing.
We decided to catch the bus (again) to the main path of the waterfall. Yes I know, lazy of us but look you hardcore walkers, I feel like I’ve walked everyday for ages, and I’m tired! Plus we still did 800 metres of ascent and 10 miles distance.
The walk up was reasonably shady which was a blessing as it was the hottest day we’ve had here so far – 31 degrees.
We had plenty of walking companions today which was nice. When we strolled to get the bus this morning, I thought everybody was in the cafes, sipping cappuccino or beer. They were obviously fortifying themselves.
For those wanting to get a really close up view of the 130 metre waterfall drop, you can climb up using cables attached to the mountain side. It’s precarious but I love a good scramble so up we went. Definitely made for taller people as I did struggle to find footholds but we got up there.
Feeling quite pleased with myself, I then saw a portly Slovenian entourage heave themselves down the mountain side having just viewed the waterfall. I can’t say they found it easy but they did it. Respect.
Our walk back was easy but hot.
Another 10 miles notched up.
Our routine when we get back now is to get our boots and socks off ASAP, open beer and assume seated position on the balcony. Any movement is either to get more beer or go to the loo. We have to eat out tonight, and I’m struggling to find the will to walk into town.
Easy day tomorrow?
