Bistrica Trail, Mojstrana

Last night we ate out in Kranjska Gora. I ordered stuffed calamari. I imagined a delicate filling of breadcrumbs, herbs, maybe a minced prawn. Nope. Spam and cheese. I ate most of it as I was hungry but it was very odd and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Today we decided to drive to Mojstrana and walk some of the Bistrica trail. It’s famous for the Pericnik waterfall and and fabulous views of Triglav. The sign said we could walk as much or as little of it as we liked which was a relief as if it said we had to walk it all, I might have had second thoughts.

We saw hardly anyone on this very pretty walk. I hypothesised that most people had gone home after a nice weekend in the mountains. Er no…they were all in the car park which was a 30 minute walk to the waterfall. Cheaters! Wouldn’t find us doing anything like that.

The waterfall was quite magnificent and we were lucky enough to share it with just a few people as on our walk down, a bus load of Americans were making their way up.

We ate our lunch in the shade by the river. We could see the road/trail winding it’s way up the mountain side. We looked at each other, packed our backs and headed back.

Feeling a bit guilty for only walking 6 miles, we popped into the museum in Mojstrana and popped straight back out again when we realised it was €6 each and a very small museum. That’s beer money potentially wasted. We did have a look at the photos outside which were mainly of people climbing Triglav.

Ah Triglav! There is a special place in my heart for Triglav. The scariest mountain I have ever walked/ climbed up. Fond memories of Nik climbing up there, hanging on to cables with one hand, filming with the other, and having just got over a hernia operation. What a legend! I noticed that the photos showed everyone with helmets and ropes. Wimps!

And then it was home to pack – back on the road tomorrow and heading for Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. Looking forward to some gentle sightseeing and no mountains for a while.
