Day 27. Verduno/Annecy

There was a power cut this morning so Salvatore was a bit distracted and didn’t bother checking the apartment, he just handed over our deposit. Phew! I think everything was shipshape, but you never know.

We were sad to leave the area but it’s on the list for a return visit – plenty more to see, and we are both very taken with it.

Nothing much to report with regards to our journey to Annecy other than we had another “no ticket given” scenario on the autostrada but this time we knew the drill and paid at the next pay station.

Our accommodation in Annecy is a 3 bedroomed house which is far more than we need but it was all we could get. It’s very well situated a couple of miles outside the old town: we are away from noise and tourists but close enough to walk in or get the free(!) bus in which goes every 7 minutes. How fantastic is that?

We decided to stretch our legs and walk in. Naturally we had to stop and have a refreshing beer on the way. Lots of young people around as well as plenty of holiday makers, making good people watching material.

The old town of Annecy is stunning. Picture postcard pretty with a blue shallow river running through it, ancient old buildings dipped in it and then the lake. It’s huge and surrounded by mountains. Glorious. And of course the sunny weather helps too.

Tomorrow we may hire some electric bikes and have a pootle, we might wander through the town gardens, we might even make it to a mountain village where there are apparently stunning views across to Mont Blanc.

For now, I’m happy to sip my wine and reflect on what a brilliant trip this has been and feel a little sad it’s coming to an end.
