Moving on to Wilderness

We had a lovely final meal in Plett last night at a place called Sol Kitchen. Should have gone there before – excellent food and a really good atmosphere, just 10 minutes walk away.

We had to be up and out of our accommodation by 10am which was also complicated by load shedding but we did it.

Although Plettenberg Bay itself is very beautiful and we had a couple of very enjoyable days, it didn’t really do it for me and 5 nights was probably too long. The cold and cloudy weather was definitely a factor.

We had time to kill before we could check in at our next hotel in Wilderness so we treated ourselves to breakfast at Nice Neighbour. So delicious. Unfortunately they weren’t keen for us to hang around once we’d eaten so we headed toKnysna to have a look around.

One of Knysna’s claims to fame is it’s quay area which has been fancied up with nice shops. While we were there, a party of African ladies had been on a booze cruise and were singing and dancing their way off the boat. Their voices were incredible.

Even stopping to get the car washed didn’t take up much time so were early to our accommodation but luckily they were ready for us.

It’s really a lodge/guesthouse but Moontide Lodge is extremely charming. Set on a lagoon/river, we have a “hut” with a thatched roof and it’s so pretty inside. Our hut is called “Moon River” which was one of my Mum’s favourite songs. Wilderness was another of Charlie’s recommendations. He’s great at sussing these places out.

There are kayaks available to guests, so we took one out and pottered down the lagoon up to the river. Beautiful. And very hard on the arms. Apparently we can kayak quite some way along the river with the owner’s blessing. Not sure we’ll be doing that…

We spent the rest of the afternoon lazing on bed chairs, watching the bird life on the lagoon and reading our books. The weather is warmer, the atmosphere is chilled, hoping the next few days stay that way.
