The weather forecast looked good for today – a very slight chance of a shower but nothing much- so we decided to do the walk up past Playa Bluff and along the jungle trail which ends at the tip of the island. According to Nadia our host, the walk was about a 4 hour round trip.
But first, a fortifying breakfast was required. After last night’s delicious offering we were looking forward to breakfast and it didn’t disappoint. The passion fruit smoothie was particularly divine.
As the weather looked a little cloudy with a few spots of rain, we decided to delay setting off for a while so we faffed around a bit before venturing out.
It’s very lush and quiet here and just walking along, we spotted a sloth and a great black hawk. Nadia told us that once we were past BomBom beach bar, there were no more stops for refreshments or food. We decided to call in there on our way back.
It didn’t take too long before we got to the jungle trail which was about halfway to our destination. A few drops of rain started to fall and within a minute it was a full on rainstorm. After dithering for a bit, we decided to carry on, figuring we were already wet so no point turning around. However the downpour continued unabated and I got a bit worried that we could end up wading/swimming through mud on the way back.
Turned out to be a good decision as the rain was relentless. When we arrived at BomBom, there were no tables left under cover and S was beginning to get the hanger. (I do sometimes wonder about Steve’s metabolism. 3 hours is the longest he can manage without food. He needs to be studied.)
Luckily The View restaurant had one spare table so as it was a food emergency I quickly squelched my way to it and bagged it. We must have looked terrible, we were completely drenched and bedraggled and everyone else looked well groomed and completely dry. Still, the staff didn’t turn a hair and served us, even though they tortured poor Steve by bringing his lunch 20 minutes after mine.
We waited until there was a lull in the weather and made our way back to Mosana, cold and wet.
Maybe we’ll try again tomorrow. Or maybe not.
