After a leisurely morning, it was off to pick up Mr and Mrs B and head off to El Medano.
El Medano is famous for its windsurfing and kite surfing. It also has a big old lump nearby called the Montana Roja, formed “by successive explosions fruit of the violent vaporization of the sea waters”. Thanks for that Wikipedia. However it came into existence, we were going to get to the top of it.
El Medano proved to have a very pleasant surfer sort of vibe to it. About half an hour’s drive from Costa Adeje and quite close to the airport, it has the longest beach in Tenerife at about 2 miles long. I would imagine the currents are quite strong as far as swimming is concerned but there were no shortage of kite and windsurfers dotting the sea.
Montana Roja beckoned. It’s 171m high, so just a pimple really but it was a very pleasant walk to the top with lovely views out to sea and also a good view of the airport if you’re interested in plane spotting. Which I am not.
We wandered back into town and got drinks at a nice restaurant near the sea front. Again, a more relaxed vibe than the areas we are staying in. Apparently lots of Spanish people have holiday homes here.
We were going to walk to Playa Pelada and possibly Montana Pelada (a caldera and national park) but the sun was going down so that will be saved for another day.
Too sweaty for dinner together we dropped J and N off at their abode and made our way to our next stop – Superdino supermarket.
We like Superdino. Easy to park and not so big that you feel dazed by the amount of aisles, but big enough to get everything you need.
Aware that it wouldn’t be too long before S’s stomach was growling, I fronted a supermarket sweep of sausages, chips, veg and a few other delights and got us through the till as fast as we could. (Superdino is popular with locals who like to do their shopping around 7-8 pm so we hit it at peak time ).
Home, shower, sausages sizzling, the end of a very pleasant day.
Are the Canaries starting to work their magic?
