Day 10 – Rovereto/Imperia
We woke up this morning to rain. It had at last arrived.
We had a relaxing hour or so reading the news before getting up and getting on our way. We knew this was going to be a 5 hour travel day if not more , not our favourite and could be longer if the weather was anything to go by.
Considering this is Italy where the driving is crazy, most people were fairly sensible in the wet conditions although as usual around Milan was not good. Some of the downpours were really bad and we did have to divert at one point. Having said that, we got to our accommodation pretty much at the time we said we would.
Hmmm…a case of win some, lose some. It’s ok ( basic), but I was a bit disappointed that we are not alone – there are people staying in an annex- yet the blurb says “the entire place is yours”. Well, I wouldn’t expect to be sharing my apartment with anyone else thank you very much so I assumed there were no other apartments as the photos made it look like a house.. Lost in translation perhaps or a deliberate leading astray?
Anyway, we’re here now and there’s plenty to do so I don’t suppose we’ll be hanging around much and the review will out.
First thing to do was to buy some food. The supermarket is 5 minutes walk away which is handy.
Anyone who says to me “British supermarkets are expensive “ will get a battering, or maybe just an incredulous stare. They are not expensive. I’m talking food here not wine and beer which maybe some people confuse with food, but actual food is not cheap anywhere in Western Europe. So far, Italy is the dearest. I have the receipts to prove it. Even in Eastern Europe the prices are similar now to the Uk. It’s the same thing as “French food is marvellous” or “Italian food is full of variety”. Neither is true. Rant over. Thank you for listening.
Anyway, chilling out in the garden with a glass of wine is proving very pleasant indeed. I can hear a rumble of thunder in the distance and may have to put my deckchair away shortly, but all is well.
