The Hills are Alive

Days 15 and 16 – Lorgues

Our new home is in a very tranquil spot. There’s the odd aeroplane and helicopter that flies over but nothing that interferes with the calm and serenity of our abode. We have spent  two full days   around the pool, reading, snoozing, route planning and swimming.

The night sky here is something to behold. There is very little light pollution, the sky is as clear as a bell and the stars provide an infinite display. We even saw the Milky Way. It was worth coming here just for that, even though youngest son accused us of being on the wacky baccy.

Our  accommodation is fabulous too. I’m  envious of how good it looks – so  tasteful and full of comfy cushions – Casa Laura, take note.

However, although our hosts have done well to provide a lovely environment, and appear to be friendly and helpful, we are beginning to feel that they don’t really mean it and would rather we paid our money and then just go away, leaving everything pristine and unused.

First they told us we must dispose of our own rubbish ( sort it into the various recycling categories first obviously)  and take it into town. Town is a 10 minute drive away and not just any old drive, a heart stopping, scary drive as people drive like loons here and there isn’t enough room for two cars on the road. As it happened, we needed to go the supermarket anyway so off we went. We completely ignored the recycling guff and stuffed our bags into the Intermarché general rubbish bins while no-one was looking.  Awful I know but not as awful as being expected to do something our “hosts” should do.

Next, we are sent an email this morning (we don’t leave until tomorrow) saying  that we have to clean the house thoroughly before we leave or we’ll be charged €100 cleaning fee. Woah guys! You need to chill out! Just come and talk to us. Our eldest son made me chuckle by saying pay the fee, life’s too short to clean. I gave that boy a terrible upbringing

Silliness aside, we’ve had a lovely time relaxing and a good thing about being hosted by clean freaks is that the pool is beautiful, no grunginess anywhere and lots of attention has been paid to everything. I do appreciate it and kind of understand you don’t want it ruined.

Tomorrow we head for Aix Les Bains. Slowly making our way home.
