Our desire for spicy food wasn’t met last night. After reading the terrible reviews for the curry house we were going to, we decided to give it a miss.
The Thai restaurant that was our alternative was full so we ended up back in Bratislava’s old town.
Underwhelming in the day, it had turned into an attractive party town at night. Families and young people promenaded along the streets and cafe life was in full flow. We eventually found a restaurant that wasn’t full and settled down to read the menu.
Now, after eating way too much pork since leaving Turkey and complaining about it, would you choose pork ribs as your meal? No, neither would I but Steve did and instantly regretted it when a slab of pork, enough to feed 3 people, was put in front of him. He gamely chomped through it but felt very sick after and made me promise to stop him if he ever tried to eat pork again.
I had the veal.
This morning we drove from Bratislava to Saalbach in Austria. Saalbach is a very authentic(ie no-one speaks English) village in a mountainous area, not too far from Kitzbuhel , for those of you who remember ski Sunday.
It was,and still is, flipping freezing here. 12 degrees in the valley and 2 degrees on the mountain. Where the hell is summer?!
We are intending to do a walk called the seven summits tomorrow so we went up in the cable car to see where it starts and generally scout everything out. Couldn’t see a thing, swathed in cloud. Apparently it’s going to be clear and sunny tomorrow but it’s hard to believe at the moment.
I booked our ferry home today. It felt a bit sad as now the end of our road trip is within sight – next Friday to be exact. It’s just as we really as now the kids are on holiday accommodation prices have gone up considerably and we’ll be forced to use the tent.
Wandered into town for dinner. Chatted to some German chaps who recommended their home town as a good place to visit on our drive back. It sounds good so we will. They also recommended a local speciality dessert to try which we did. It’s called kaiser something and is basically a cross between a pancake and French toast, dusted with icing sugar and a handful of raisins. You then dip it into a container of Apple purée – delicious.
By the way, Steve had a burger.
