A very wet day was forecast so we decided to do the boat trip from Bernkastel Kues to Traben-Trarbach.
The scenery was mainly vineyards clinging to the sides of steep hills interspersed with some reasonably pretty towns. (Bernkastel is by far the prettiest though.)
The pace of the boat was very slow but it passed the time. Unfortunately by the time we got to Traben, it was pouring with rain.
We thought about visiting the Buddha museum, but at 15 euros a person to see things we’ve already seen in their authentic setting, we decided against it.
We tramped around in the rain, got something to eat, then got the earliest possible boat back. This place does not fit with our ADHD way of travelling! Maybe we need to come back in 20 years time. But then again, maybe not.
In keeping with the slow pace of things around here, I fell asleep on the sofa in our apartment for a good hour. This is virtually unheard of for me – but it felt strangely good. Maybe the Mosel is getting to me.
We needed to do some shopping and discovered there was a supermarket not far from us. Oh the excitement! A shopping trip!
The supermarket didn’t disappoint. It sold everything, even bio.(organic).
Huge bonus – the alcohol is ridiculously cheap. Unfortunately we could only carry 4 bags between us but we vowed to stock up on our way to Bruges.
As we had not had any exercise, I dragged Steve out on a walk to find a waterfall in a gorge not far from Bernkastel centre. The sun came out and the vineyards glistened. A very pleasant end to a relaxed day. Maybe we should do this more often? No chance – cycling tomorrow and Steve’s set his sights on 80 km.
