All ready to go to the farmers market and just about to get into the car when Steve spotted a huge dent in the rear of the drivers side. Thank goodness the person who hit the car was honest and left a very apologetic note on the windscreen with her details. She lives in one of the apartments.
We decide to keep calm and carry on, and go to the market.
It was very sweet and was literally local people selling what they grow on their small holdings. However this was billed as “the biggest market on the island” and it was tiny. Done and dusted in 15 minutes, but bought some delicious butter avocados, coriander, papaya and tomatoes.
Next stop the fish market. Wow! All types of interesting fish and great value. We bought a huge piece of tuna for $6. They also sold poke – raw fish marinated in all sorts of herbs and spices and eaten with rice and salad. We’ll be back!
Once home Steve popped round to the car basher’s apartment. She was devastated poor lady and was also driving a hire car. Never mind, these things happen. Nothing we can do until Monday when the hire car office opens.
We decided to drive out to the eastern most point on the island and walk to the lighthouse, about a 4 or 5 mile walk.the drive took ages and when we got there, I saw a massive front out to sea. Most annoying as the weather forecast had said dry all day and we hadn’t brought any waterproofs. Steve hadn’t really noticed it and I decided to ignore it which was a mistake as half a mile into the walk the heavens opened and we got absolutely soaked.
Had some shopping to do (food and a dressing gown for Steve as he forgot his and I don’t think Ian and Kylie will appreciate him wafting around the house naked) which was uncomfortable dripping wet. Also I was wearing a padded bra which acted like a sponge so for modesty’s sake I put my fleece on which luckily I’d left in the car. Very hot needless to say.
Observation – some of the strangest looking people shop at Walmart. saw a woman who must have been 50plus, body covered in tattoos , bald, head tattooed with a few long strands of hair gelled up at the front. Very weird look. Also some of the fattest people I have ever seen in my life! And a man wearing a bum bag backwards around his neck. And there was me looking great in wet shorts and a purple fleece in 80 degrees.
