Heaven

What a wonderful day!

Started off with a breakfast of fresh fruit followed by three banana and honey pancakes. I love pancakes.

Next we pottered down to the beach in front of our accommodation and set up camp next to some fishing boats.

A much quieter beach than Mirissa, there were just a handful of us, swimming, snorkelling and reading.

When we went snorkelling, there were the most enormous schools of fish, weaving about in unison. I actually found it quite frightening- I don’t really like seeing what’s in the sea! I imagine all the bigger fish (sharks) after them. Luckily Steve’s not at all nervous, so I hung on to him.

Next, lunch time at a beach bar along the road. Met a very pleasant girl, travelling on her own.

We’ve seen a few people on their own and I’m full of admiration for them. I’d be lonely and probably not bother going, but they don’t let that stop them and are very independent. It’s strange though because many of them don’t talk to each other and just look at their phones all the time. Maybe they like the peace of being on their own.

Next, a walk over to the left of the bay. This part of the beach is basically deserted. No one there at all apart from a couple of fishermen. It’s beautiful.

We saw a monitor lizard which had dug a big hole. We weren’t sure whether it was laying eggs in there or eating turtle eggs. Sadly on further inspection, it was the latter. Steve chased it away and covered the eggs up, but I suspect it will be back for more once we had departed.

After all that we needed a bit of a rest before scooting out for dinner on the beach. Dinner was grilled red snapper. Yum!

Such a good day, we’ve now booked another two nights here.

Heaven.
