Oh what a perfect day – Colico to Dervio

Today was one of those perfect days that you get every now and then, days that you know you will treasure and think about when the weather is awful outside and life is not all it could be.

It didn’t start that well in all honesty. Our original plan was to catch the train from Colico to Dervio at 10.37am but on arrival at the station it appeared there was no such train only one at 11.37am.

After some deliberation, we decided to walk from Colico to Dervio and catch the train back. The return trains were much more regular so it seemed to make sense.

It was a bit of a slog to get on the trail, but once we found it, the route was well signposted. (Sentiero de Viandante).

The sun came out and the views just got better and better. I’ll let the photos tell the story but suffice to say it was a stunning day.

The final mile to the station wasn’t great and we cut it fine but we caught the train back and stopped of for a gelato on the way home.

Then a quick visit to the enormous Ipera market for tonight’s dinner (you could spend a rainy afternoon here without any trouble) , shower and food prepping.

A lovely evening with Jan and Nik followed and it was warm enough to eat outside. The mountains were virtually clear of cloud as the sun went down.

A magical day indeed. The run to the sun definitely paid off today.
