We are off on our travels again after yet another year confined to barracks. Curses to this tormenting virus. Even with the long awaited vaccines, it still continues to plague us.
I hear you ask, why Spain? Good question – as many of you know it’s never been on my must see wish list. In fact, quite the opposite. Previous visits have left me distinctly underwhelmed. However, Covid-19 is still alive and kicking , making travelling abroad both complicated and limited so It was a toss up between Spain and Greece. Even though we went to Greece last year, I’d have happily gone again but extensive wildfires and inflated car hire prices tipped the balance in Spain’s favour.
To make it more of an adventure, and as our experience of Spain has so far been limited to the Costa Blanca and Madrid, we’ve decided to see as much of Spain as we can in three weeks so we will drive around it in an anti-clockwise direction, starting and ending in Bilbao. We have a vaguely circular plan in mind which will naturally include walking up various mountains, visiting a few cities, swimming in the sea and sampling plenty of the local food and wine. What happens in between is anyone’s guess and as Steve has already staked his claim to add Andorra to the itinerary and is thinking about Gibraltar, I’m beginning to think 3 weeks is nowhere near enough time.
