Calabria – Coast to coast and other things

Day 8 and 9 – Capo Vaticano

Yesterday and today have been chill days. Yesterday we toyed with the idea of renting a pedalo and even got so far as wandering down to the beach that does all the touristy stuff but apathy overtook us and we wandered back again  to relax on our own beach.

Today was more of an enforced chill. We’ve been having issues with our plumbing in the house (the owners were amazingly quick to get it sorted) , which last night extended itself to my own personal plumbing. S has also been experiencing a reaction of some kind to the bites of the numerous mosquitos here, so we laid low and read our kindles in the beautiful garden here which was very relaxing and therapeutic.

By late afternoon we were feeling revived enough to take a potter to the Parco Belvedere dei Cannoni Capo Vaticano. It’s a small garden rather than a park  but it’s perched on a cliff top and has the most fantastic view over the sea. The clarity of the sea is spectacular and it’s hard to stop looking at it.

Put that together with the sunsets over a smoking volcano and the stars that appear in the cloudless sky  at night, this really is the most magical place.

But it’s time to move on and tomorrow will see us move further down the coast  to Reggio Calabria and the Messina Strait.

Goodbye beautiful place. We’ll  think of you when we’re home in damp and dark England and it’ll bring smiles to our faces.
